A new program called Posturr ensures an upright posture at your desk: If you don’t sit correctly, the screen suddenly looks blurry. You can find out how this works and who it is suitable for here.
Some lean back almost lying down, others sit so close to the monitor that their noses almost touch it. In between, there are numerous other sitting positions that are anything but back-friendly and that many people adopt unconsciously.
But how can you position yourself better? And how do you quickly notice that your posture is no longer right? The solution is an intelligent one Open source program called Posturr for macOS, which reminds us of this in an unusual way. It does not use notifications or audible alerts.
Blurry screen with poor posture
Instead, the screen becomes blurred: the content of the display is blurred. Only when you stand up again does everything become clearly legible. What is particularly effective is that the blurring effect occurs in different levels.
If you sit just slightly crooked, the image will only be minimally blurred, so you can make corrections in time. However, if you are in a very crooked position, the screen becomes so blurry that you can no longer see anything.

Individual adjustment of posture and effect
The ideal sitting posture can be individually defined in the program settings, as can the intensity of the blurring effect.
Technically, the whole thing works with two options: Either the free tool uses your Mac’s camera and relies on permanent image evaluation. Alternatively, Posturr checks the integrated motion sensors of the AirPods headphones (Pro, Max or 3rd generation or later; requires macOS 14 or newer). Particularly practical: When you use the AirPods, the camera does not have to be active.
However, this also means that the application only runs on macOS and is not compatible with Windows.
Free, without an account and with local data protection
For statistics lovers Posturr also an overview of how upright you sat throughout the day or week. The program was developed by software engineer Tom Johnell from New York.
Posturr can be done for free downloaded – without registration or fees. Johnell enters on the official Github website Privacy Promise: All data is processed exclusively locally on the Mac, there is no cloud connection and no tracking. The program is currently only available in the original English version.
