GPS tracking works best when the tracker’s signal does not encounter obstacles, such as walls. It works ideally in spacious areas or meadows in the open air. For example, if the dog is in the basement, it is unlikely that the tracker will capture the necessary four satellite signals, but this is the case with all GPS applications. You don’t get a signal even in the subway or in the basement; in the leafy early summer forest, location is only possible with a slight delay. In the open field, however, it is excellent.
The distance and direction in which the dog is or in which it is traveling is shown very precisely. The app not only shows how many meters the dog is running in front of, behind or next to you. The running direction is also displayed precisely, which is very convenient for dogs that tend to wander. Live tracking in real time is possible, the default setting is five minutes. However, it can also be ended earlier, as live tracking places greater strain on the battery of the tracker and smartphone.
It is also possible to set up one or more virtual fences with the Tractive Dog 6 dog tracker. A virtual fence is very practical: it shows whether and when the dog enters or leaves a predetermined area. It is possible to set up a virtual fence using the app. The process is a little more convenient on the PC because of the larger screen, as the app version is also available in a web browser version.
