According to an insider, Apple wants to bring a new high-end MacBook onto the market in 2026 – possibly together with other “ultra” devices.
Apple is apparently planning to introduce another MacBook at the end of 2026, which will be priced above MacBook Pro M5 models should lie. A possible name: MacBook Ultra. At least that’s what the usually well-informed Apple insider reports Mark Gurman at Bloomberg.
The central innovations of the Ultra MacBook are an OLED touch display and a “Dynamic Island” instead of the previous “Notch”. Since, according to the report, Apple is increasingly relying on 3D printed aluminum, it also stands to reason that the new MacBook will have a fresh design. A photo montage from “Apple Hub” shows what this could possibly look like X (“Twitter”).
According to Gurman, it is part of Apple’s strategy to expand the portfolio in both directions: the company only recently acquired the comparatively cheap one MacBook Neo presented with an iPhone processor and a starting price of 699 euros. Now a new upper-class MacBook is to follow.
When Apple introduced OLED displays on the iPad Pro and iPhone, prices rose by about 20 percent. Assuming a similar price increase for the MacBook, the starting price for the 14-inch model could be 3,000 euros.
Are AirPods Ultra and iPhone Ultra coming too?
Gurman thinks it’s plausible that other products will receive the “Ultra” moniker, including:
- AirPods Ultra, improved in-ears with integrated cameras and Siri AI
- iPhone Ultra, which has been simmering in the rumor mill for a long time foldable iPhone
While it is largely undisputed that these products are coming, the names are pure speculation – but they would fit well into Apple’s naming scheme. Apple has previously used the nickname on the Apple Watch Ultra. At least for the AirPods, “Max” is already taken, so there is something to be said for the name. Of course, Apple could also surprise you with a completely new name, as it recently did with the MacBook Neo.
