The case is very small and simple, is made of plastic and creaks when pressed, but does not rattle. When the lid is closed, everything sits securely, but when the lid is open, a bud can fall out if you shake it vigorously. A positive feature is the case LED, which shows the battery level in color (green for over 80 percent, yellow in the range from 20 to 80 percent, red for under 20 percent). The buds themselves are made of roughened plastic with good grip and appear to be sturdy. The eartips are non-slip, but prone to dirt and difficult to clean. The fit is secure and it feels good to wear – but the attachments can be a bit pressy.
For touch operation, you tap on the earphones; However, they react a bit sluggishly: you feel like you have to tap a little harder; double tapping is sometimes recognized as a single tap. There is also a small annoying factor: after short pauses in playback, the volume of the sound increases for one to two seconds until the target volume is reached.
Features include dynamic ANC, ambient mode, multipoint and IPX4. The ANC attenuates evenly and naturally, but overall only has a medium effect – the mids and highs often remain too present. The app has an 8-band equalizer, freely assignable shortcuts and the xboom Buds LAB for saving presets. Extras such as Auracast, UV-Nano, plug-and-wireless or Qi charging are missing and are reserved for the more expensive Plus model.
