Lenovo not only builds laptops, but is also working on smart work devices for the office of the future: the company presented the Lenovo AI Workmate at the Mobile World Congress. It is still a concept study.
Do you know Luxo Jr? This is the Pixar lamp that jumps through the screen in front of every animated film from the studio. Lenovo’s AI Workmate looks just as cute as Pixar’s mascot: The “AI workmate” is built like a desk lamp, with the lampshade replaced by a ball with a screen and googly eyes. The cute interface is deceptive, because the AI Workmate is not intended to be a toy for bored office workers, but rather a smart assistant that can interact, organize and carry out a variety of tasks.
Always ready for action: the perfect assistant?
The Lenovo concept study AI Workmate is intended to investigate how human interactions can be meaningfully recorded and used digitally. As a desk companion that is always ready for use, the AI Workmate is intended to recognize documents, speech and gestures and process them locally on the device – similar to the voice assistants Alexa or Siri, but also with a camera to scan documents or detect movements.

The AI Workmate is intended to take on common assistance functions, including combining documents or creating presentations. The device can then immediately project this onto nearby surfaces such as a desk or wall.
In a YouTube video, Lenovo explains in which situations the smart writing assistant should be an indispensable aid AI Workmate before. A prototype can also be seen in action at the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.
Concept study: AI working environments of the future
With this concept study, Lenovo says it wants to explore how artificial intelligence can support professionals in an intuitive, human-centered and privacy-conscious way. Whether the AI Workmate will actually come to market at some point in the future is uncertain.
