Android Auto has a new problem. Users report that the AI Gemini is suddenly “talking to itself”. Normal use is hardly possible anymore.
Since the global launch of Gemini on Android Auto, reactions have varied widely – from enthusiasm to frustration.
In a current case, a user describes Reddit forumthat the assistant stalls in the so-called conversation or live mode, like “Android Authority” reported. Gemini starts speaking, stops mid-sentence, switches back to listening mode, and then tries to respond again – a repeating loop that makes it virtually impossible to use.
Annoying continuous loop error: Android Auto users despair of Gemini
A user writes that he has to reduce the volume so that Gemini doesn’t constantly interrupt itself with its own output signal. Another indication is that the regular Gemini app in the car can also get into similar conversation loops.
Bluetooth lag could be the cause
The original post creator also explains that the sound in his 2014 vehicle runs via the original Bluetooth 4.0 system. He retrofitted a module to switch between the old infotainment system and Android Being able to switch to Auto or CarPlay – with an audio lag of three to four seconds.
One commentator suspects that this delay could be the exact cause: the Gemini audio played back by the car with a time delay is interpreted by the assistant as a new voice input and thus triggers the loop.

How can the problem be solved?
How “Find Articles” writes, users have a few options to solve the problem. However, in some cases none of the solutions help.
- Cable instead of radio: Use a wired one USB connection for Android Auto. This minimizes the delay and usually solves the synchronization problem immediately.
- Reduce volume: Turning the radio down reduces the chance that the microphone will pick up the AI voice again and misinterpret it as a new command.
- Back to the classic: Temporarily switch from the new Gemini back to the classic one in the smartphone settings Google Assistantuntil an update fixes the latency problem.
- Adjust settings: Disable “Hotword Detection” (Ok Google) or Continuous Conversation Mode in Gemini Settings to reduce heckling sensitivity.
Google has not yet commented on requests
As things stand, the problem appears to occur primarily when using Gemini Live via Bluetooth, while the assistant works normally in other situations. “Android Authority” has Google asked for a comment; an answer is still pending.
