
Apple dominates smartphone sales in 2025. The iPhone 16 leads the top 10, while Samsung only appears in fifth place with the Galaxy A16.
The market research company Counterpoint has found out which smartphones were sold particularly often in 2025. The top 10 contributed 19 percent of total smartphone sales in 2025.
Best-selling smartphones: Apple’s iPhone 16 at the top, Samsung only in 5th place
Apple can secure the top position because the iPhone 16 sold best. It is followed by the iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Another brand is only in fifth place: Samsung with the Galaxy A16 5G.

Analysts comment on Samsung and Apple
Senior analyst Karn Chauhan said of the results, according to Counterpoint: “Samsung’s S-series secured a spot in the list for the second year in a row, underlining the brand’s continued focus on its flagship range.”

Analyst Harshit Rastogi commented on the leader: “Apple maintained its strong position in the top 10, with the iPhone 16 topping the list and further widening the gap to the following places. The iPhone 17 series achieved 16 percent higher sales in the first full quarter of launch than the previous series, driven by strong demand in key markets such as the US, China and Western Europe.”
Samsung in 2026: Broad folding device offensive
A folding smartphone did not make it onto the list. Still prepared Samsung one for 2026 unusually broad folding device offensive. An entry in the GSMA IMEI database confirms that three new models are in the works.
