Who is BNXN (BUJU)?
BNXN, whose real name is Daniel Etiese Benson, popularly known as Buju, Bujutoyourears, is a Nigerian Afro-fusion singer and songwriter. He rose to fame with the release of the remix to his single “Lenu” featuring Burna Boy. He became a sensation online for his vocals on Ladipoe’s single “Feeling”.
Buju was born on May 19, 1997 in Lagos and originally hails from Akwa Ibom State part of Nigeria. Buju also known as BNXN is 26 years old as at the time of writing this article.
He grew up in Gbagada area of Lagos before his family moved to Ogun State. He lost his mother to cancer and that had encouraged him to work harder and achieve his dreams.
BNXN Career
The aspiring music star developed passion for music at a very early age. He had adopted the name Drizzle while in Junior secondary school before he later changed it to Buju.
He was inspired with music influences from the likes of Burna Boy, Damian Marley, Buju Banton, J Hus and so on.
He came through with his first single titled “Catch a Vibe” in February 2016 and this was also followed up with another record titled “A Day in Lagos”.
He got signed to Spaceship records on April 16, 2020, a record label which is already a home to the Afro-beat Nigerian music star, Burna Boy.
He gained more exposure after the remix of his single “Lenu” alongside Burna Boy.
The talented singer also released his EP, “To Your Ears”, in 2019.
He got more exposure for featuring on Ladipoe’s single “Feeling”.
Ever since Buju rose to fame, he has released lots of hit singles and collaborated with top artist like Amaarae and Blaqbonez. His song “Outside” has received massive airplay across the globe.
On 4 September 2022, Bnxn was announced as the winner of the The Headies 2022 Next Rated award. The award night was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
In October 2023, Bnxn released his debut album, Sincerely Benson. The album featured appearances by a variety of artists including British rapper and singer, Headie One and Jamaican singer, Popcaan.
BNXN Awards & Nominations
Buju won the Rookie award at the City People Entertainment Awards (2020). He was nominated for the Revelation of the Year at the Headies 2020.
