Daddy’s Day Out, the first ever fathers Day celebration event, took place on Sunday, 25th June 2023, in the Paradise City of Calabar, Cross River State.

A brain child of the Dan-Patricks company Ltd and Giggle Guru Ltd with veteran broadcaster and event producer Kingsley Dan-Patrick at the helm, the event set out to play host to men (fathers and father figures) drawn from all economic and social class of society.

In the words of the Convener, Mr Kingsley Dan-Patrick, “We set out to give these men a good time, all expense paid… at least for that day, let them just come out, have fun, be boys again, and go back home without any debit alerts. For a few hours, we want to take off the burden of fatherhood from their shoulders… and have fun, they did!”

The event saw fathers and father figures nominated by their spouses, children or mentees gather at the Wallstreet Cocktail Hall on the very popular Marian Road in Calabar where they got treated to a 2 course meal while enjoying a mix of great music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s churned out by Rhythm 93.7 Port-Harcourt’s DJ Golden.
There was food and drinks aplenty while the fathers participated in games such as ball juggling, arm wrestling, plate dancing, bottle flip challenge, sack race, amongst others combined with lots of laughter from the jokes of the 3 comperes for the event, Mc Daiok, Daady Jay and Dr Lokosmith.

Gift packs were handed out to winners and runners up of the different competitions, while action pictures were shared with the participants at the event.

Speaking on behalf of all the celebrated fathers, the eldest attendee, Prof J.O Bisong, a retired professor at the University of Calabar and heart grand father who won the dancing competition said, “it is indeed an unusual event… in all my life, I have not seen such an event to celebrate fathers. Especially as we didn’t have to pay a gate fee or anything. For someone to put this together and have this number of people come and eat and drink and play is a great feat. We were over 50 men, and you can see how happy and excited we all are…I can only pray for the organisers that they grow and increase, and I hope that they continue this…”

The event was crowned by a special fathers day song rendition by one of Calabar’s finest vocalists, Mr Alvin amidst applause and fanfare.

The event which was planned to host 50 men ended up with over 70 people in attendance and drew partnership pledges from some top brand owners in the city.
