How Acts Of Lawlessness Is Now Destroying PDP – Nigerian Lawyer explained

Nigerian Lawyer, Azubuike Ihemeje, has explained how acts of lawlessness is now destroying the opposition Political party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Barrister Azubuike made the explanation in his verified social media page on Wednesday night. He stated that the crisis plaguing PDP today is fundamentally due to the party’s deliberate violations of its own constitution and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. The PDP is now suffering from the nemesis of breaching it’s own internal law, and the grundnorm and the highest law of the land.
Explaining how the Peoples Democratic Party is suffering as the result of lawlessness, Azubuike Ihemeje wrote:
“The crisis plaguing PDP today is fundamentally due to the party’s deliberate violations of its own constitution and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“PDP is simply suffering from the nemesis of breaching it’s own internal law, and the grundnorm and the highest law of the land.
“How so?
“For the very first time since the formation of that political party, the PDP jettisoned zoning of their presidential ticket.
“And this was done in flagrant disobedient to extant laws.
“To be specific;
“Article 7 (2) (c) of the PDP Constitution, stated.
“In pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness, the party shall adhere to the policy of rotation and zoning of party and public elective offices, and it shall be enforced by the appropriate executive committee at all levels.”
“The above PDP constitution, seems to have derived its principles from the Constitution of Nigeria.
“Under Section 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it provided for Federal Character principles.
“It must be stated unequivocally that by every principles, zoning means the same thing as Federal Character, which is expressly captured in the 1999 Constitution.
“The Federal Character talks about political balancing of positions and appointments, which is the same thing as zoning.
“Zoning means “divide into or assign to zones”, positions and appointments whether by way of election or appointment.
“That provision requires the fair and equitable representation of different ethnic and regional groups in the composition of all tiers of government.
“This was designed by the framers of the constitution to ensure that there is “no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups” in the federal government and its agencies.
“What the above two provisions of the law are saying is that;
“PDP ought to have zoned their presidential ticket.
“Throwing the ticket open was never envisaged by both PDP and Nigeria Constitutions.
“That was the very beginning of their crisis.
“By gambling with lawlessness, PDP positioned itself for avoidable crisis.
“I don’t want to reiterate the issue that, PDP now wants a northern Muslim to succeed another Muslim northern president in 2023.
“PDP can’t operate in isolation of the very country they exist in and seek to govern.
“The party must strive to do justice, fairness and equity for all parts of the country.
“For these are the natural consequences of flaunting their own laws and Nigeria constitution.
“Laws are not made for the fun of it.
“Laws are there to be obeyed.
“That’s why it’s important for those who seek to unite and solve Nigeria problems, must be reminded to first obey their own internal laws.
“Lawlessness usually begets confusion.
“And more lawlessness could lead to inseparable violence.
“Then compounded lawlessness will surely lead to total destruction and comprehensive annihilations.
“I sincerely hope and wish the worst to befall lawlessness people.”
This is coming as some members of the Peoples Democratic Party demand the resignation of the National Chairman of the Party, Iyorchia Ayu, who’s from the North following the emergence of Atiku Abubakkar as the presidential Candidate of the Party in the 2023 general elections.
