Why you must confess positively

Why you must confess positively

There is power in positive confession. When words are spoken, they have an impact on the outcome of our lives depending on how they are used. If you speak positively all the time, then you can experience positive outcomes.

God created man in His image and the very nature of God is that He operates through “Words”. The world is existing today because of His spoken word, it has remained and will be destroyed by His spoken Word.

“For this, they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” Also, in Hebrews 11:1 it is written that “the worlds were framed by the word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

In the same way, humans were framed to operate in that manner. Every human being has that ability within himself or herself to create outcomes by their spoken words.

“A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil]. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]”
Confession simply means using your mouth to speak words either positively or negatively. The tongue is responsible for the words as confessed and it has been vested with such great power, that the Bible says “it can set a whole house on fire”. It is insignificant yet bears great rule over our lives because of spoken words.

There are two schools of thought that support the concept of positive confessions. The first one is psychological and the second is scriptural. Both have similarities, however, they are largely discrepant from each other. The similarity between them is rooted in their application but the difference is in the belief or causes behind them.

What does this mean for a child of God? Let us consider both schools of thought in their applications and beliefs.

Psychological Concept of Positive Confessions.

This model is based on the “Self-Fulfilling Prophecy.” The concept was introduced by Robert K. Merton in 1948 and different experiments have been conducted to explain the phenomena. One of the experiments that stand out was conducted by Rosenthal and Jacobsen in 1968, known as the “Pygmalion Effect.”

In that experiment, the student’s behaviour and results were the outcomes of the teacher’s expectation and confession of them. In essence, the students who were told that they were “poor” performed poorly whereas those called “intelligent” has a tremendous boost in their results. The effect of this was as a result of the spoken words.
Today, a lot of psychologists and neuroscientists have developed many models around this concept. It is known as positive declarations, daily affirmations etc. and is widely used now.

The idea behind these models is that the words which are spoken or affirmed are in direct contrast to the current situation or circumstances of the individual, which are negative most of the time. Hence, it is deployed as a tool to recreate seemingly bad outcomes to positive outcomes by the positive words which are being spoken.
The belief behind this model is centred on the mind, the faculty of the human being responsible for all our thought processes, patterns, and outcomes. Numerous studies have been done on the human mind and the consensus of many is that it is the most powerful centre of the human being. It has also been discovered that the mind is only as powerful as the information you feed it.

Therefore, positive confessions are used as a mind-trickery tool to fool the mind into believing and creating positive outcomes based on the information, words which are fed it. By speaking daily and positively the person is made to believe that his or her outcome will change generally for good.
The model has yielded great results and has seen many persons overturn their fortunes by applying it. When you read financial books, you will see the application of positive declarations in most of them.

Notwithstanding, every great thing has its limitations and the major limitation is that majority of those who practice this model deny God, the creator of the mind giving glory to their efforts.

The words of man are only as powerful as the spirit behind them, this is what many are ignorant of. A human being on his own cannot speak or change circumstances based on their mere words. So the words that are spoken in this manner have spirits behind them that are responsible for the manifestation of the results. Yes, “good results” are witnessed but because it is not the Spirit of God, these spirits become responsible for the rebellion against God, which is always the aim of the devil.

Most times, the rebellion is subtle and Satan always treads in subtility.
So, the child of God is not encouraged to use this model on its own rather if it must be adhered to, then it should be combined with the authenticity of the word of God.

Scriptural Concept of Positive Confessions.
This concept operates on faith in the integrity of the Word of God. It has a similar application with the psychological concept in that the aim is to recreate bad situations or circumstances in the life of the individual by speaking positive words into the mind.
The name for this concept is termed “Prophecy” or “Word of Knowledge.” The Word of God is described as the sure Word of prophecy (2Peter 1:19) and it is the tool that God has given to His children to overturn situations that are in dissonance with their desired output as well as God’s expectation.

When the child of God continually declares the Word of God, the Spirit of God behind the word works to recreate the awful situations or circumstances so that they can experience positive outcomes.

This concept submits to the authority of God, His Word, and His Spirit with the full awareness that in Him we live, and move and have our being. The belief is firmly in God and not our own power.

There is a particular Word of God that speaks to your situation, you can engage it by using your mouth to declare them.
Search the Bible, which is the pool of God’s Word and use the words that specifically address your situation to speak your outcomes into positivity.

For this to happen and not be a victim of the devil, you must read the Word of God and allow it to dwell in your richly. In those difficult moments, the Spirit of God uses the Word to stir you into declare positively.

However, declaring the Word of God will not work unless you believe it wholeheartedly. This is where many have missed it and blame God that His Word does not work, the natural man is involved in this too.

“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” You must believe with your heart in God so that His Words which you declare can have a great positive effect in your life.

Conclusively, as human beings, we are constantly faced with challenges and troubles that aim to defeat us but you must not let any challenge to overcome you rather it is expected that you overcome the challenges. Speaking positive words in the moments of difficulties is one of the best methods to overcome challenges. Don’t allow your problems determine your life’s outcome.

To have a great success, it is best to use the Word of God when making such positive confessions and trust Him wholeheartedly that He will work with His word to change your life.
Remember, when there was darkness in the Earth, God spoke and light appeared. No matter the “darkness” in your life, when you confess the word of the Lord positively, be assured that “light” will appear in your life too. There is power in positive confessions!
