The best-selling sonic toothbrushes in Germany come from the Philips Sonicare series. But there are also good alternatives, such as the Wondersmile Pro. What are the differences?
Note: Classification as a price tip or according to price limits is based on the cheapest shop offer in our price comparison; the price in the linked shop may differ.
The Philips sonic toothbrush range includes several models in different price ranges, from over 200 euros to under 50 euros. The Philips Sonicare 5300 (test data) is the solid middle class, but also has strong competition. One of them is this Wondersmile Pro (Test).
In fact, the toothbrushes are quite similar in terms of performance. The price for the Wondersmile Pro is around 80 euros, the Philips model is cheaper at 65-70 euros. However, its replacement brush heads are more expensive. After one and a half years of use at the latest, the costs should level out.
In the table below you can see details of the toothbrushes from our test. We will then go into the differences between the two models in more detail.
What is the difference between Philips Sonicare and Wondersmile?
Overall, the Philips Sonicare 5300 performed better in our test than the Wondersmile Pro. This is mainly due to the excellent cleaning performance of the Philips model. In our testers’ assessment, the sonic toothbrush cleans hardly any worse than the manufacturer’s much more expensive premium versions. And the service is also great.
The test subjects also liked the Wondersmile Pro in these aspects, but there were points of criticism. The toothbrush is less powerful. In fact, the brush attachment has a measurably lower frequency of cleaning movements. The teeth still get clean. And in terms of ergonomics and operation, the two toothbrushes are very similar.

There are major differences in the equipment. The Philips Sonicare 5300 has a single brushing mode and two strength levels, so the options are limited. The Wondersmile Pro offers four modes with three intensity levels – a wide selection. On the other hand, in contrast to the Philips, it does not have a pressure control, so it does not warn if there is too much pressure on the teeth.
The Wondersmile Pro currently sets the best value in terms of battery life: It lasts a full 316 minutes of continuous use, i.e. a good 2.5 months of daily tooth brushing. But the Philips Sonicare 5300 isn’t that much weaker here. And as a rule, you will probably charge the toothbrush every now and then. Both models should be able to survive a vacation trip without a charger.

For whom is which toothbrush worthwhile?
If you don’t want to rely on the Philips Sonicare 5300’s only fixed brushing mode being the right one, you should choose the Wondersmile Pro. There is a wide range of settings here and you will find the right mode at the right strength. However, there is no assistance from the pressure control. You have to know for yourself how much pressure is too much. The other aspects do not differ so significantly that they really make the difference. Both models are stingy with accessories and the costs are similar.
